Fall Beach Benefits

In Fall, the notoriously crowded beaches are suddenly less crowded, featuring cheaper hotels and special events to celebrate the new time of year. An article recently completed by Family Vacation Critic sought to provide several suggested destinations that emphasize family friendly activities.

This year at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware, the twenty-fifth annual Sea Witch Festival will be held from October twenty-fourth to the twenty-sixth. The activities include a Sea Witch hunt, horse parade, magic shows, pumpkin carving, a costume parade, and free outdoor movies in the park at dark. The event is a Fiddler’s Festival, meaning that fiddles and banjos will provide foot-stomping music. Finally, as a special aspect of the twenty-fifth year for the event, historic exhibit will run at the Rehoboth Beach Museum through November first. Virginia Beach, located in Virginia, will hold its forty-first Endless Summer, including the Neptune Festival. The Endless Summer Beach Bash, which was held on the twenty-ninth of August, kicked off the event; September weekends were occupied with carrying out the occasion, including wine festivals, symphony performances, sporting events and galas. A special event entitled Boardwalk Weekend was held from the twenty-sixth of September to the twenty-eight; the event included a series of outdoor concerts along 32 blocks of Boardwalk, as well as Saturday night fireworks, surfing and sailing competitions, a parade with more than 100 floats, a sand sculpture competition, and a show including more than two hundred and seventy five artisans. On the fourth and the fifth of October, the Fall Kite Festival was held at Lincoln City, Oregon. The event is held directly on the beach, and includes events such as kite-making workshops, show kites, a teddy bear drop, and a kids’ parade.

In the Gulf Shores of Alabama, the National Shrimp Festival will be held between the ninth and twelfth of October. More than three hundred vendors will be in attendance. Two stages provide continuous live entertainment, and the Children’s Activity Village will provide arts and crafts to keep children excited and engaged. The Endless Summer Festival of North Myrtle Beach will feature the main event, held on October twenty-fifth. The day includes free live entertainment from a stage on Main Street, along with carnival rides, a children’s play area, arts and crafts, a car show, and plenty of festival food. On Saturday October eleventh, Nantucket Massachusetts will hold its Cranberry Festival. The event features children’s events, hayrides, sheep shearing, wool spinning and sheep herding demonstrations. Cranberry dishes will be provided, along with clam chowder. Finally, held in Coastal Maine’s Kennebunkport, Harvestfest and Kidsfest games, entertainment, crafts, hayrides and a special Saturday night pumpkin stroll for children. Live bands, food and beverage vendors, crafters and a marketplace are provided to entertain the adults of the family. The event takes place over the eighteenth and nineteenth of October.
